The downloaded video looks blurry
Quality is set by the upload, not the downloader. Here is how to judge it and get the best copy.
Last updated: October 29, 2026
The file looks softer than expected.
Quick fix
- 1
Check the file details for its pixel size.
- 2
Open the post from the creator's own account, not a repost.
- 3
Choose HD when two versions are offered.
Common causes
A low quality upload
If the creator uploaded a small or heavily compressed video, nothing can make the saved file sharper.
A repost or a screen recording
Each extra upload or recording compresses the video again, so copies look softer and softer.
SD chosen over HD
When both versions exist, the SD button gives the smaller, softer file.
A small screen preview
A video can look soft in the preview card and still be fine at full size.
Step by step on your device
- 1
Open the Photos app and open the video.
- 2
Swipe up or tap the info icon.
- 3
Read the size, for example 1080 x 1920.
The details
What decides sharpness
The creator's camera, how the video was edited and exported, and what the platform stores. A downloader cannot add detail that is not in the source. We return the best version the platform serves and never shrink or re-encode it.
Check the numbers
Open the file details. On Windows, right-click, choose Properties and open Details. On a Mac, press Command and I. A vertical video of 1080 by 1920 is Full HD. 720 by 1280 is HD. Anything lower is the original upload's limit.
Get a better copy
Reposts and screen recordings are already compressed, so the best copy is the original.
- Open the post from the creator's own account, not a repost.
- Copy the link from that post.
- If two versions exist, such as HD and SD, choose HD.
- If you own the video, use the original file on your phone.
Sharing it again
Every upload compresses a video again. If you share a saved clip, send the file in a messaging app that keeps quality, or share the original link instead.
How to avoid it next time
- Always use the creator's original post.
- Pick HD when it is offered.
- Keep your own originals so you never depend on a download.
Questions people ask
Can the tool improve the quality?
No tool can add detail that was never recorded. We return the best version the platform serves.
Why is a 1080p file blurry?
A low bitrate or heavy compression can make 1080p look soft. The upload decides that.
What is a good size for a reel?
1080 x 1920 is Full HD for vertical video. 720 x 1280 is HD and still good on a phone.
