How to download Facebook reels in HD
Facebook reels are short vertical videos that spread fast, and the app gives you no simple way to keep one. This guide shows how to save a public Facebook reel as an MP4 on a phone or a computer, how to copy the correct link, what the HD and SD buttons mean, where the file goes on iPhone and Android, and what to do when a link fails. It also explains why private reels cannot be saved, how to use saved reels fairly, and why you do not need an app or a browser extension to do any of it.

What a Facebook reel is
A reel is a short vertical video, normally 1080 by 1920, that Facebook shows in a feed to people who may not follow the account. Reels come from personal profiles and from pages, and they can carry music, captions and effects. Each reel has its own link, which contains /reel/ followed by a number.
Only reels shared with the audience set to Public can be seen without a login, and only those can be saved by a public tool. If a reel asks you to log in when you open it in a private window, it is not public.
Step 1: copy the reel link
In the Facebook app, tap Share on the reel and choose Copy link. If you only see a row of apps, scroll along it until you find Copy link, or look under the three dots. On a computer, open the reel and copy the address from the browser bar. Short fb.watch links work as well.
Copy the link of the reel itself. A page or a profile link has many videos behind it, so the tool cannot know which one you want.
Step 2: paste it into the Facebook Reels page
Open the Facebook Reels page of this site and paste the link. It starts on its own and shows a preview after a few seconds. You also tick the box that confirms you may save the content, which is remembered on your device so you only do it once.
If the link is a normal video and not a reel, the Facebook Video page handles it in the same way. Both use the same method, so a mix-up costs nothing.
Step 3: choose HD or SD and save
When Facebook keeps two versions, you see an HD button and an SD button. HD is sharper and larger. SD is smaller, quicker to save and fine for a phone screen. If only one button appears, only one version exists. Press the one you want and the MP4 downloads with its original sound.
A one-minute HD reel is commonly 8 to 20 MB. A long reel can be much larger, so use Wi-Fi when you can.
Where the file goes
On iPhone, use Safari. Open the Downloads icon in the address bar, tap the file and choose Share, then Save Video to place it in Photos. On Android, Chrome saves to the Downloads folder and shows a notification, and Gallery usually lists it within a minute. On a computer it goes to your Downloads folder.
No app or extension needed
People often search for an FB reels downloader app or an extension. You do not need either. A normal web page does the work, and it cannot read your files or contacts. Apps and APK files from outside the official stores can carry malware, and extensions can read what you browse. If you want one-tap access, use Add to home screen on the tool page.
Watermarks and quality
We add no watermark or logo. The file is the MP4 that Facebook serves, and we do not re-encode it, so the quality is what Facebook holds for that reel. If a reel already shows a logo or a username on screen, it was added before the reel was posted, and nothing on our side can remove it.
Rules, rights and troubleshooting
Reels belong to the people who made them. Keep saved reels for personal viewing, credit the creator if you share, and ask for permission before reposting or using one in your own work. Music in reels is licensed only for use inside the app.
If the tool cannot fetch a reel, open the link in a private window. If it needs a login, it is not public. Check that you copied the reel link, that the reel still exists, and wait a minute in case Facebook slowed requests. Our help center has a page for each common message.
Questions people ask
Can I save a reel from a private account or a group? No. Those need a login, so a public tool cannot see them, and we would not want it to.
Why is there only one quality button? Some reels exist in only one version. When Facebook keeps both HD and SD, you see both buttons.
Does the reel keep its sound? Yes. The MP4 has the same audio as the reel, including music and voice.
Can I save a reel I posted myself? Yes if it is public, but the original file on your phone is always sharper, so use that first.
Is this the same as the Facebook Video page? The method is the same. The Reels page is for links with /reel/, and the Video page is for watch and page videos.
