How to download Instagram photos and carousel images

A photo on Instagram looks small on a phone, but the platform keeps a larger copy. Carousel posts add another challenge, because one post can hold up to twenty pictures and clips. This guide shows how to save a single photo or every image in a carousel as a full-size JPG, what size you can expect, how to save pictures and videos from the same post, and how to keep your downloads organised. It also explains the simple rules about using other people's pictures, so your saved images stay a private keepsake and do not turn into a problem.

Photos, carousels and what the tool saves

A normal post holds one picture. A carousel, which you swipe sideways, holds several pictures and sometimes videos in the same post. The Photo page of this site reads the public post and lists every item it finds, each with its own preview and Download button. That way you can take just the one picture you like or save the whole set.

Profile pictures are handled on a separate page, because they are not part of a post and need only the account name.

Step 1: copy the post link

Open the post and tap the paper-plane Share icon, then choose Copy link. On a computer, copy the address from the browser bar. A post link looks like instagram.com/p/ followed by a code. You do not need the link of a single slide, because the post link covers all of them.

The account has to be public. If the post opens in a private browser window without a login, it is public and you can save its pictures.

Step 2: paste it and look at the results

Paste the link into the box on the Photo page. After a few seconds you will see one preview card per picture. A carousel with six pictures shows six cards. If the carousel also contains a video, that appears as a video card with its own button, so one link gives you everything in the post.

Look at the previews before you save. They show you which picture is which, so you can skip any you do not need and keep your downloads folder tidy.

Step 3: save and organise

Press Download under a picture to save it as a JPG. Pictures from one carousel get different names, so they do not overwrite each other. A simple habit helps a lot: create a folder per project or per account, and move the pictures there as soon as they land. On a phone, move them into an album from Photos or Gallery.

If you save many pictures at once, give your browser a moment between downloads. Some browsers ask for permission the first time you download several files in a row, and you need to allow it.

What size and quality to expect

Instagram stores pictures at a limited size, commonly around 1080 pixels on the long side, sometimes more. We save the largest public copy the platform shares. We do not enlarge, sharpen or filter anything. It is the same picture you saw in the post, just as a file.

If a picture seems small, it is because the original upload was small or because Instagram reduced it when it was posted. Taking a screenshot would only make it worse, since a screenshot is limited by your screen size and includes the interface around it.

Saving on iPhone and Android

On iPhone, open Safari, press Download, then use the Downloads icon in the address bar to open the picture. Tap Share and choose Save Image to add it to Photos. On Android, Chrome saves it to Downloads and Gallery lists it shortly afterwards. If you cannot find it, open the Files app and look in Downloads.

On a computer the image simply goes to the Downloads folder, where you can drag it into any project or editing program.

Using other people's pictures fairly

A picture belongs to its photographer, even when the account is public. Saving it as a keepsake or for inspiration is low risk. Posting it as your own, cropping out a name or using it in advertising is not. Ask the owner for permission when you want to share or publish a picture, and always credit them.

People in a picture also have privacy. Do not share photos of private individuals, and never use a saved picture to bother or mislead anyone.

Troubleshooting

If the page cannot fetch the post, check that the account is public, that you copied the post link and not a profile link, and that the post still exists. Instagram also limits requests for a short time, so waiting a minute often solves it.

If only some pictures from a carousel appear, reload the page and paste the link again. If it still looks wrong, send us the link through the contact page so we can check how the post is built.

Quick answers

Can I save a picture from a private account? No. Only public posts can be fetched, and we do not ask for a login.

Will the picture have a watermark? We add nothing. If the owner placed a logo or text in the picture itself, it stays, since it is part of the image.

What if the carousel mixes pictures and videos? The page shows every item. Pictures get a Download button for JPG files and videos get one for MP4 files.

Can I save a profile picture the same way? Use the Profile page for that. It needs only the account name and shows the largest public copy of the photo.

Tips for keeping your pictures tidy

A few habits make a big difference. Save carousels into one folder named after the account or the topic. Add the date to the folder name so you remember when you saved it. Back up important pictures to cloud storage, because phones get lost and reset.

If you collect pictures for a mood board, note the source of each. A short text file with the account names and post links is enough, and it makes it easy to credit people if you ever share your board.

Common mistakes to avoid

Copying the link of a single slide from the address bar after swiping can still work, but copying the link from the Share menu is safer because it always points to the whole post. Another mistake is pasting an account link when you want one picture, which leaves the tool with nothing to choose from. A third is saving a screenshot of a picture and calling it the original. A screenshot is limited by your screen and includes buttons around the picture, so a proper download is always sharper and cleaner. Finally, do not forget to check the previews. Carousels sometimes begin with a cover slide that you do not need, and saving everything blindly fills your gallery with pictures you will never look at.
